I had the opportunity to meet Tim Woods a few years ago at Farm Jammalamma. I loved that event, and I can honestly say I miss being there. I saw Tim play with the Derek Woods band. I was into it. The sound reminded me of my childhood and all the educational talks my stepdad gave me about music. Since then, I watched his video Vortex and listened to his new album. Let’s just say he knows what he is doing.
Name some of the individuals who influenced you to help shape your career.
There are many layers of individuals in my life who have influenced and helped shape my career it was jazz, blues, bluegrass and folk music people like The Grateful Dead, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, John Prine, Django Reinhardt, The Beatles, The Allman Brothers, Commander Cody, Bobby Lee Rodgers, Chuck Leavell to name a few. I was lucky enough to get to perform with many in the music business including Commander Cody, Mick Fleetwood, and many legends of the blues over the years.
What is your favorite song that you wrote?
My Favorite song that I wrote was called “Take a minute” where in the song I said ‘Take a minute and look around there might be something you’ve missed that you haven’t found” in that song what you can find is love. That’s an important message for me to say to my audience.
What do you hope people get out of your music when they listen to it?
I hope people can feel it and relate to it in their lives. I want people to be able to relax and have fun during their time at my shows.
Can you talk about your induction into the Blues Hall of Fame?
I was inducted in the New York Blues Hall of Fame in 2012 in New York City in Greenwich Village. That night I got to perform with Roger Earl of Foghat and was inducted with musicians like Joe Louis Walker and many others.
What are some of the earliest bands you were in or lead?
As a teenager in PA, I was in a band called Gunther Gunthunder, I started as a roadie and really studied there music very closely and eventually was asked to join them. Then, years later after living in Macon, Georgia I moved to Florida and with a member of Gunther Gunthunder formed The Thumb Brothers, called that because the bass player Huck Werner and I both used our thumbs to play. That was a unique band that used a lot of improvisation and experimentation in our music. I then moved back to PA and formed Tim and the Tornados in the 80s and have since been in several other bands over the years.
Are you working on any new music?
I am currently working in Atlanta Georgia on a new album my 4th out later this year in 2022.
What are some of your future music goals?
I would really love to perform in Europe my music is played on radio in several countries. I would love to perform live for people there. Also, I would like my music to be featured in films I am working to make that happen. I just keep pushing on and creating new music.
