Lisa DiGorio has been a staple in the dance community for over 40 years. Generations of families have been going to Lisa’s to learn different genres of dance. Her studio is currently located in Pleasant Hills, PA. I had the opportunity to intern at Lisa DiGorio School of Dance during my fall 2019 semester of college which gave me an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the dance world.
I will forever be grateful for that internship and the opportunities she gave me during that semester and continues to give me. Looking back on that experience, I have to laugh because I thought I was going to be doing clerical work. Why I thought that at the time I honestly have no idea, but to my surprise she let me see what it is like to own a dance studio and what it is like to be a dancer. Every Thursday I worked with kids that were in kindergarten – 2nd grade. I felt the magic at Lisa’s dance studio every time I walked through the door.
Lisa’s students look up to her as a role model. She provides a safe and clean environment, there is structure, and organization, laughter, and bonding. It’s interesting to watch Lisa instruct a class because you can see her passion and dedication.
In my personal opinion, the art of dance is discipline, teamwork, resilience, dedication, hard work, an escape, brilliance, timing, and passion. At times, people may underestimate the amount of courage it takes to get on stage.
