Clarksdale, Mississippi

Clarksdale, Mississippi

Clarksdale Mississippi, the birthplace of the blues! Even though Clarksdale is desolate, there is so much to offer in this quaint town. The drive to our B&B was beautiful. Open roads, large cotton fields, Southern hospitality, and quiet. Surrounding Clarksdale are small towns, that are each unique in their own way. I knew I was in for a wonderful adventure, and I was on a mission to learn more about the blues!

“The blues is the roots, and the rest is the fruits.” – Willie Dixion

Day 1- December 26, 2023:

As soon as Chris (my husband) and I landed in Memphis, we were ready for lunch! This is when I found out that Chris never had ribs before. I was shocked, but Memphis is a great place to have BBQ! We stopped at Blues City Café – known for ribs, gumbo (spicy), and catfish. The ribs had a thin crispy crust, juicy and tender meat, nice coating of flavorful sauce. Crispy fries – that made a nice complementary side. Also, served with beans, coleslaw, and Texas toast. We ate so much, but we did not feel weighed down afterwards. This was a good meal!

Clarksdale, like many places that I visited – will hold a place in my heart. This magical place attracts visitors around the world. It was nice to have time to just drive on the open roads and explore different Blues Landmarks. See map here: https://msbluestrail.org/blues-trail-markers

Clarksdale also educates visitors on how the Delta took part in the Civil Rights Movement. For more information click here: https://www.npr.org/2023/04/23/1171494445/civil-rights-tourism-may-protect-mississippi-history
